Mr. Robot: Season 2 [Blu-ray]

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

I can hardly believe it, everything I have ever wanted in 1 show have all combined and served to me on a silver platter with this network series. Sam Email is not only an artist, but a visionary who gives a voice to the social conscience through his creation of Mr. Robot. His character development reflects the sort of depth and and complexities similar to those of a Steinbeck novel such as East of Eden in which appearances are oftentimes just that – appearances.

Esmail’s abilities has surpassed my expectations this 2ND season, however, when successfully rendering a portrayal which gave a new humanity to the other side with E Corp’s seemingly cutthroat CEO becoming a more benign figure when he offers up a form of emotional and personal mercy to Angela after she has been in his employ faithfully for some time past. The character monologues are brilliant, the cinematography is superb, and the use of visual imagery to capture the moment taking place emotionally makes this the most impressive network drama to have ever aired on television for me.

Watch it and you will be likely to agree – Esmail is an impressive artistic force that makes you reconsider, or perhaps for the first time consider, a breadth of social constructs and economic systems currently in place and what the impact for society could be when disruption to these present day monolith institutions does take place. Simply brilliant!

On a whim, never having heard of it previously, I found myself watching Mr. Robot on TV (Amazon Prime free streaming Season 1). I loved it from the beginning. The world of computer hackers is mystical, secretive and interesting to me. I didn’t think the show would change my way of thinking and my behaviour the way it has. The thing about this series is that even if you don’t like the cast, the director, the story line, or maybe you just don’t care less for computers and their capabilities, you still owe it to yourself to watch at least one or two episodes before deciding.. What makes this show addictive for me is the portrayal of raw human emotions which we all find so hard to discuss. I’m not talking about the struggles of the cast, I’m talking about you, me, our neighbors and friends, other humans. Every single one of us has to be more in control, more prepared. Every time I watch an episode my mind goes back to the 2003 Northeast Power blackout. Remember? There was a problem in the electrical grid that took out electricity to the most of the Eastern seaboard, including Canada for 24 hours. In some areas the power wasn’t restored for over 3 days. We couldn’t buy gas, the computers in the pumps didn’t work. Money for lunch? HA! We couldn’t use our ATM or credit card for days because the banks computers were down, there was no power at the bank, the grocery store, the hotels, NO WHERE. No money, no lights, no heat, no food, and no bank. One glitch, one unintentional mistake in the system and the domino’s started falling. Now banks and large corporations get hit intentionally by hackers trying to take them down, every single day! I remember that hopeless feeling and realising how dependant I was on the system. Mr. Robot is giving me a much better idea of what is and isn’t possible in today’s world and that’s no mistake. Black hat hackers aka “bad people doing bad things with computers” seem to have a lot of time on their hands. The show is an eye opener into that hacker world. The producers keep it true to life even in small details. That computer code you frequently see in the show, is code written to do what the script is saying happens. In other words, it might take 4 days to write that code and it only appears on your screen for seconds. But they know we are paying attention and some people even understand it (not me though). I enjoyed watching the interviews with the cast because they seemed just as suprised as I was at how easy some things are to hack. This show will change how you see society today and more importantly it might even help you correct some small mistakes that make us all so vulnerable. Even if you’ve never picked up a computer, the government and big business has loaded their computers with all the details of your life. Now, go get a Band-aid or a piece of tape and put it on the front facing camera of your phone, laptop, or computer. Yup. It takes about 1/2 and hour for a hacker to get access to the camera without you even realising it’s ON!! During interviews each cast member said that’s one of the first things they did after that episode because a hacker showed them just how easy it is. Hey, stop trying to peak over my bad-aid and start changing you’re bank passwords lol. Seriously, unless your password has at least 12 digits, a mix of capitol and lower case letters, and two special characters (like a : or / ) you may as well give them a key. Hackers write password hacking programs that include dictionaries too so try not to use full words. See? It’s amazing what they can do.
