Three Identical Strangers

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

“Three Identical Strangers” (2018 release; 96 min.) is a documentary about identical triplets separated at birth who are adopted into three different families. As the movie opens, Bobby looks in the camera and says “When I tell my story, people don’t believe me. I wouldn’t believe it, if the story was told to me!” We then go back in time to 1980, when then-19 yr. old Bobby arrives at Sullivan County Community College, and people there call him “Eddie”. It doesn’t take long to put 2 and 2 together and Bobby and Eddie meet up. The amazing story is picked up by Newsday, and before we know it, a third guy, David, comes forward. They are immediate stars (“go viral” had that term existed back then). At this point we’re 10 min. into the movie. What a crazy story, right? You don’t know the half of it but to tell you more of the plot would spoil your viewing experience, you’ll just have to see for yourself how it all plays out.- Paul Allaer

This documentary was very touching. However, I was curious about a few things that were not explained.Identical triplets are rare. A teenager got pregnant on her prom night – – there is never any mention of who the babies’ father was. Was she raped, or was it her first date with him, or was he her boyfriend? There is never any mention of why she gave up the babies – – although it was 1961, when unmarried teens did not keep their babies. However, the babies were not placed into their adoptive homes until they were six months old, which was not explained… Where did the babies live for their first six months? At that age, they were definitely old enough to miss the other two when they were separated… it was said that the babies each banged their heads on their cribs, probably from missing the other two, which could definitely affect any kind of test that was secretly being done… the babies were not separated at birth, which matters. Very little was said about the mother – – just that she appeared to be an alcoholic with some kind of mental illness – – and absolutely nothing was said about the father or any other family members, such as siblings or grandparents, etc.-Double Happiness

unsettling that a psychoanalyst who had escaped the Holocaust decides to experiment with other Jewish children done in secrecy and deception with cooperation of an agency specializing in placing children in Jewish homes. The argument of a different time and criteria for informed consent was not the same – what was wrong and right was. There was too much $$$ to be made by those involved in separating the children. I did wonder why the parents who had adopted prior weren’t suspicious of the different treatment/study of their sons. The rationale of the assistants is eerily similar to the Nazis. We are entering another ‘experiment ‘ now with children brought to the US by families seeking asylum separated, incarcerated and now being placed into adoptive homes – with again much money being made. Too bad there can’t be that assistance given to these families to help settle them here-deborah y felio
