Victoria Season 2

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

This is an information posting . First, there seems to be some worry about the “UK Edition” mentioned after the title. Don’t worry. This will play in the United States. Amazon states that the format is NTSC. This is the format for the United States. PAL is the format for the United Kingdom. Secondly, there seems to be some confusion about the American version being edited down, and if you want the full version you need to get the British copy. Besides the obvious problem of not being able to watch the British version (PAL), unless you have a region free player, the truth is the British version is even more edited down than the American version.

First let’s look at Victoria Season 1. The British version, released by ITV, consists of two discs with a run time of 385 minutes. However, there is some confusion because there is also a Dutch version that is also two discs, but with a run time of 393 minutes. Fortunately, there was a British reviewer who was nice enough to mention that he timed his version and it came out to 392 minutes and 22 seconds. He didn’t mention if he had the ITV or Dutch version, but we’ll go with 393 minutes. Now let’s look at the American version. The American version consists of three discs for a run time of 415 minutes. However, I timed my copy and came out with only 410 minutes and 12 seconds. Even so, the American version is still 17 minutes longer than the British version. My conclusion is that, even though I noticed some editing in the American version, the British version has far more editing.

Now let’s look at Victoria Season 2. The British (ITV) version, I found no Dutch version, consists of two discs with a run time of 375 minutes. The American version consists of three discs with a run time of 480 minutes. This is a vast difference in time. At first I thought there must be a mistake, but this might be true. Upon further research I noticed that the British version has eight episodes like season 1. However, on IMDB, Season 2 actually has nine episodes. The ninth episode was a Christmas special, titled “Comfort and Joy,” that aired on December 25, approximately two months after episode eight aired. It may be that the American version will include the Christmas episode, which will make the time difference correct. So, not only will we probably once again have less editing than the British version, we may also be getting an extra episode.

Haven’t seen season 2 yet but felt I had to give it 5 stars to combat the 1 star angry reviews at Amazon. Reviews are of the show or movie, not for reviews of the company that is streaming it for you. When I realized that I had just purchased season 2, reading only that it was the UK’s version, I presumed I could purchase it and see it before it shows here in the US. Some nice thoughtful reviewers explained in their review that it can’t be seen until January 2018 after it shows on PBS. I immediately called Amazon Prime Support and they returned my money no problem. To the other angry people who wrote the nastiest things to those of us that didn’t at first understand, you may have fine print that says exactly what date it will be streaming, but on some devices, it simply does not have that fine print, more the fault of the device than anything else. All of you angry people should go to anger management classes! Life’s too short for these kind of issues people. Can’t we all just agree that season 1 of Victoria was phenomenally good and we can all look forward to season 2 if we haven’t seen it yet!? Smile- Amazon Customer
