Call The Midwife: Season 8
DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:
Emotionally engaging journey into the lives of people in the 50s and 60s viewed through the eyes of truly caring people. Engages in life and death matters centered around birth, but surrounded by issues of race, abortion, contraception, birth defects, premature death dealt with them in the context of the values and mores of the 1950s and 1960s. The issues dealt with are still with us today, making the show both nostalgic and current at the same time. References to music and events of the era will resonate with viewers who were alive at the time.
Wonderfully engaging and well developed characters dealing with often very difficult situations connect to the viewer emotionally. Always engaging and the show always brings out the best from their main characters. A celebration of life. As a bonus, seasons 4 and after have lovely music by Maurizio Malagnini.

This show is just fantastic. I love the characters that are regulars, they are so well written and acted. I love how this show makes the characters that come on for one episode come to life and make you care for them right away. The writers on this show are so good at bringing up important topics of the times without being saccharine or preachy. I grew up in the 60’s and really enjoy revisiting those times. It’s always good to look back on the way things were and the way things progressed over the years to understand why things are the way they are today and learn from them. Too many people are critical of things without understanding them and learning from the past. The people who make this show are absolute geniuses. I highly recommend this show and I hope it’s around for a very long time to come.

The series began in the 50s and now addresses British midwifery of the 1960s. Historical drama with comedy relief with so much excellence it deserves 6 STARS. Speaking of stars, this show had made stars of many of the cast. After 8 seasons, you know it has to be good. Originally adapted from a book, but having gone so long, the new stories are not adaptations but “based on” tales. Still, all good. Each offers glimpses into the historical past of the era. Season 8 was powerful. Can’t wait for the next.
This is so cleanly done you can invite the pastor over for an episode. The only nudity is newborns. I have purchased every season as they appeared available on DVD. Our house continues to watch the old DVD along with the new.
Our Doctor friend, took one of our copies on a Haiti mission trip to show contemporary midwife trainees. It’s that accurate.
SDH SUBTITLES for all episodes.
An any-library must. Great gift idea.
