The Flash Season 4 UK Region

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

I had previously purchaced all of the Flash, Arrow and Supergirl seasons. Each of these series’ have been great up until now. They have had interesting, entertaining shows without injecting any overreaching social, political or sexual themes. That’s one reason that I liked them. I get so much of that on the news and networks in general.
It was nice to sit down and decompress and watch some shows (Flash, Arrow and Supergirl) that didn’t try to push some ham-fisted socio-political or sexual agendas.
I have since donated all of my Flash, Arrow and Supergirl dvd’s to a local video store. I will now buy any more of any of these series’. They have lost me as a fan.-Knuckle Martin

This season is team flash versus The Thinker, a non-speedster whose arrival was hinted at by Savatar during the third season. The season is basically a part origin story for The Thinker/Clifford Davoe and his wife Marlize, who spend the majority of the season toying with the team, and the execution of their plan, The Enlightenment. Of course, it means pulling Barry out of the speed force where he went into at the end of last season, but doing so had consequences that carried through until the end.

About a third of the way into the season the Earth-X crossover episodes with Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow, and Legends took place, set around Barry and Iris’ wedding. That was mainly a self-contained story, but as far as the Flash goes, it did introduce a character who will have a big impact on season 5.

Once the crossover crisis is resolved, the rest of the season is spent trying to stop the big bad. This season had less of a case-of-the-week feel and was really just one big story arc that the episodes really did not deviate from. Throughout the season Katee Sackhoff (of Battlestar Galactica fame) had a very good recurring role tied to Caitlin/Killer Frost’s storyline.

For those who get the blu-rays, the show looks and sounds great. All the episodes are spread over 4 discs, and unlike last year, all the crossover episodes are included (on the second disc) so you can watch them all back-to-back, in order without having to go to the discs for the other series (for those who buy all four of them) or steam the other series if you do not want them. That was a big complaint last year, each series just had its hour of the crossover, so it was a pain to watch them all, especially back-to-back. The extras include a gag reel, deleted scenes, a sit-down interview with the showrunners of each show discussing the crossover story, and a couple features on the new characters introduced this season. On the last disc, there are the comic-con highlights from each show. It is the same one included on all the other sets (Supergirl, Arrow, and Legends). It has portions of the panels from every show, not just The Flash panel. Good for what is there if you like going through the bonus material.- Mike S

Gosh. Way to go DC TV. Take whatever made Flash unique and different from all those other superhero shows and movies and toss that in favor of same old, same old available in every other show.

Sure, three years of speedster threats was a bit too repetitive, but at least Flash remained a beacon of positivity in the face of all that tragedy. I guess the producers decided to send that away with the speed villains.

I won’t spoil a season’s worth of episodes for you, so I’ll just speak to overall thoughts on the show:

– After a couple of reefer madness “high on life” episodes, Barry spends the rest of the season getting more and more gloomy.
– Worse, no one gets saved. I mean, it’s tough to call him a superhero when he fails every episode.
– More revealing his identity to everyone and anyone. Duh.
– The show becomes the Iris Adventures about a third of the way through. Probably why Barry turns so mopey.
– Some really bizarre creative decisions about supporting cast members, especially Cecile. Wha?
– Least surprising final episode “surprise” ever.

So, with all that, is it even worth watching? Well, hmm. I guess. Is it worth buying? Depends. If you like the darker, grimmer atmosphere that pervades the DC cinema universe, then this shift in tone for Flash will probably appeal to you. Otherwise, it may be a season you might skip re-watching if the show returns to its roots in later seasons.
