The Mick Season 1

The Mick stars Always sunny in Philadelphia star Katlin Olson as she plays Aunt Mickey to three spoiled rich kids who think money is everything. She becomes their guardian when their parents are arrested for tax invasion and has to put her party lifestyle on hold to raise these three kids. With help from the maid, Alba and her guy buddy, Jimmy, the three try to make life normal as possible for the kids while teaching them, money isn’t everything.
The Mick was an original show that aired on Fox. It saw high ratings and praised by critics. Sadly, after it second season aired on Fox, the station gave it the axe (as well as many other popular shows like Brooklyn nine-nine and Lucifer) leaving a huge cliff hanger that fans will never know what will happen. I pretty much figured Fox would never release a DVD set for us fans of the show, because it’s Fox. So I held on to episodes for dear life on my DVR box.
Last week, I discovered that Amazon has decided to release the entire first and second seasons on DVD. THANK YOU AMAZON! So I quickly placed my order without any hesitation or question on the amount it would cost. It took a week to receive them and I was told by a Amazon representative that they were being made by the producer of the show and then sent to their warehouse and then be sent to me.
When I received them, my face was like a kid on Christmas day. The DVD set features 2 discs and contains half of the first season on 1 disc and the other disc featured the other half of season 1. These are done on Amazon DVD-R discs which are in high quality. The artwork looks like an actual release and has excellent quality, not bootleggy like. It tells you how many episodes are on each disc and the names of the episodes. The discs have a high quality plain white label coding on them and just say “The Mick Season 1 Disc”. When I popped the disc in, it shows Fox’s logo, FBI warnings and then brings up the menu to select an episode or play all. Each episode plays flawless and in excellent quality and sound with no commercials, no TV ratings in the upper left corner etc. It plays like an actual release and it does not disappoint. The price is alright and fair enough considering this series probably would never have seen the light of day on DVD. The only downside I would say is I wish there were some bonus features like deleted scenes, commentary, interviews or something but it’s just the episodes themselves.
I’m a huge fan of the show and it takes a lot for me to like a show as I’m very picky with them. The Mick was a great show that was canceled way too soon. I would have like to seen what would have happened if we got a season 3 and how the characters would develop. Season 1 was just the start and each episode got funnier as it went on. I would highly recommend The Mick if you’re looking for a funny comedy series that’s original. I’m not giving it a 5 out of 5 just because I’m a fan, I’m giving this a 5 out of 5 because the show is great, the product Amazon released is excellent and because now this show can live on with newer generations or people who never really got the chance to watch it when it aired on Fox.
