Family Guy Volume 2
DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:
“Family Guy” remains one of the funniest shows ever to hit the small screen. (The character of Stewie remains one of TV’s greatest creations, destined to live forever in our hearts. God bless you, Seth MacFarlane!) It’s a pity the folks at Fox who were once so seemingly cutting-edge are now so committee-driven that they can’t recognize a gem when they see it. Fortunately for us, though, there’s DVD.
The package for Seasons 1&2 could have been cleaned up a bit, but this Season 3 transfer looks great!! The commentaries are not necessarily helpful — Seth MacFarlane and the gang often start riffing, & frequently one wishes they spent more time actually watching the episode & commenting on what was going on therein — but dang, they’re funny!! And they make you feel like you’re sitting there with them (being ignored). Practically every episode will have you aching with laughter. “When You Wish Upon A Weinstein” is dynamite.
I do find myself wondering if I’m missing an “in” joke with this DVD set. Jennifer Love Hewitt appears in one episode as Peter’s date, and the actress guest-voices herself … but the jewel case lists “Gwyneth Paltrow” as the guest for that episode. Huh?! It’s not possible to confuse Jennifer Love Hewitt and Gwyneth Paltrow … is it? Maybe I just don’t get it. Oh, well.
In any event, fans of the show have likely already bought the set, or are about to. But if you’re a fan of cutting edge comedy, do yourself a favor and pick up this DVD set!!- Eric Scott
And I guess I’m now one of many who would sacrifice a limb (my choice!) to have it back on the air. Fox, apparently, is listening–to the monstrous sales of the Family Guy DVDs, that is. A million copies of season one have sold already (at enough per pop to make a pretty penny for Fox), and season two is well on its way to the same result, making it perhaps the fastest and biggest selling TV-to-DVD sales phenomenon.
Family Guy is so good, that, after watching a bunch of episodes, it is difficult to go back to the Simpsons. Yes, you heard right. The Simpsons feels slow, a bit dull, and far less imaginative. (Don’t get me wrong. The Simpsons are great. But, Family Guy is so state-of-the-art that everything else starts to pale in comparison.)
Season two is every bit as good as season one, and includes my favorite episode, “When You Wish Upon A Weinstein,” which was kept off the air by Fox because it tread upon sacred ground. This episode is unabashedly anti-organized religion, but it is hardly anti-semetic. Indeed, it is the opposite of that, showing off just how crude and stupid Peter Griffin really is. He’s the Archie Bunker of the new millenium and I love it.- Maine Writer
My husband and I love this show so much and laugh just as much at the reruns as the newer ones. It’s smart, funny, and chock full of pop culture references and crazy situations. It’s not politically correct in an age where everyone gets so offended by everything and that’s what I love about it – it’s unapologetic in the people and situations it laughs at. If you are easily offended, this is NOT the show for you, but if you have a great sense of humor and aren’t offended by crudeness, you’ll find it hilarious!- Olivia Stabler
