Inspector Gadget Megaset

Let me start by saying that I am a big fan of Inspector Gadget. I’m a child of the 80’s and if you watched and loved it like I did, more than likely, you will not regret buying this set. First of all, it includes all 86 episodes, including the pilot episode where Inspector Gadget had a mustache (yes, a mustache), and Chief Quimby and Penny were voiced by different actors. The plastic cases house the DVDs perfectly and the cardboard sleeve is your general run-of-the-mill, no frills box. The only problem that I really have with the set is that the episodes have not been remastered or cleaned up in any way. In fact, there is a message at the beginning of the first DVD that says that the episodes were made from the master copies and may contain audio and visual flaws. The pilot episode then goes on to prove that with audio cutting out. I have not watched all 86 episodes, but I have noticed others in which the color looks washed out. The audio and visual flaws, probably attributed to the deterioration of the originals, is why I dinged the set one star, but all of the humor and fun are still there and it is great to be able to relive some of my childhood.-Jason
Inspector Gadget is a cross between that consumate Spy Maxwell Smart Control Agent 86 and that Great Criminologist Inspector Clouseau. Gadget is a somewhat robotic if not even cybornetic being who is a spy of sorts. He is at times smart, wise and very lucky. He misses obvious clues only to pick up on subtle clues. Gadget for all his faughts is one of the good guys who always manages to foil the best laid plans of enemies. Gadget has a host of followers who help guide him toward successful outcomes. While Gadget gets into similiar types of troube in most episodes you never get tired of watching. Gadget himself has such a strong personality and screen pressence that he never gets old. Gadget is the personification of boundless energies directed in the cause of good. Gadget is never vulgar and never crude he is always fun and happy go lucky. Even in adversity Gadget see’s something funny something uplifting that helps him carry the day. Gadget is an animated comedy created mainly for children but The Inspector Gadget Stories are never Childish! Inspector gadget never insults the intelligence of his audiences young or old and for that reason I love my Inspector Gadget Mega Set and I am over 50 years old.As for the video and audio quality I find both good making the product extremely watchable. I just received this today and haven’t had a chance to watch it yet, but this was one of my favorite cartoons as a kid.
Other reviewers have mentioned that this set does not have the Inspector Gadget Saves Christmas special, but my copy had a sticker on the front (under the shrink wrap) stating that special is included. This bonus disk was in a paper envelope tucked in the sleeve with the DVD cases. So I think that some copies of this do contain the Christmas special and some do not. It wasn’t mentioned in the description so I suppose getting that extra disk just comes down to luck.- Ian S.
