Logan – UK Region

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

I am a closet fan of Wolverine. I collected those comics when I was 11-18…I can’t help it – the nerd is strong with this family. I’ve yet to see a movie featuring Wolverine that “felt” like the character my head created a few decades ago. This one finally got there. It’s a hard movie to watch content wise because there are some sad moments. Overall though, I kind of cherished it because I feel like Wolverine was finally on the screen.-MelissaB

Those Logan trailers with the Trent Reznor/Johnny Cash song “Hurt” playing in the background are pretty damned accurate. It hurts to watch this movie. Not because it’s a bad movie…no quite the opposite actually. It hurts to watch Logan because it appeals to a truth we all know and endure – that as time passes, you inevitably have more encounters with mental and physical pain, you lose your physical abilities little by little, you lose parts of what makes you you, you lose friends and family and people you love, and quite frankly everything just hurts a little more.

Logan, both the man and the movie, exemplifies pain – mental, physical, spiritual anguish and suffering encountered by everyone who ever lived.

Without revealing the plot or providing spoilers, I will simply say that this is one of the best superhero movies made in recent years. It is also quite possibly the most violent, profane, blood and gore filled X-Men related production you will ever see. This is not a reason to take away a star for the review – no, quite the contrary they do the character of Logan/Wolverine justice that’s long overdue with a true R-rated presentation of what and who he truly is.

The reason for the 4/5 star rating is simple: it hurts to watch Logan. Yes it is intensely entertaining with all the good superlatives that one can ascribe to a movie wrapped into the conclusion of the X-Men Wolverine story arc, but it is also dark, visceral, and disturbing on many, many levels. Most people, including casual movie goers watching this expecting to see anything similar to the boy-scout superhero presentations that kick-started the craze years ago will be in for…a surprise. Children should not see this movie. People suffering from depression or mental illnesses should not see this movie. This film is rated R for very good reasons.- Joe
