The Kid Who Would Be King UK Region

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

Such a great message (morals and kindness and good defeating evil; gender, ethnic diversity; older kid/young adult fucus) but I would have treated it PG 13 because if the creepy, I would say “demonic” parts (underworld, skeletons come to life, a woman/demon who chants incantations to bring her evil minions up from the dead, same being turns into a fire breathing dragon trying to kill the kids, kids beheads dragon) but it was really well acted, humorous, great story that’s familiar but bright into modern times and dive WELL. both my kids and I loved it, but it was but much for my 7yo, who has no problem watching any other PG movie.

Old school magic meets the modern world in the epic adventure THE KID WHO WOULD BE KING. Alex (Ashbourne Serkis) thinks he’s just another nobody, until he stumbles upon the mythical Sword in the Stone, Excalibur. Now, he must unite his friends and enemies into a band of knights and, together with the legendary wizard Merlin (Patrick Stewart), take on the wicked enchantress Morgana (Rebecca Ferguson). With the future at stake, Alex must become the great leader he never dreamed he could be.

This is a great retelling of the Arthur and Excalibur legend. Young Alex is bullied at school and lives with his mother. In an abandoned building site he finds the sword Excalibur and is able to pull it from the stone. Merlin comes back to assist him in his training. Merlin comes back as a teenager who with a very deft finger process is able to make magic, Patrick Stewart portrays the older Merlin. Morgana also comes back to life and wants to take over the world. Rebecca Ferguson is a very scary Morgana. Alex and his sidekick, persuade the 2 teens at his school who often bully him to assist him in his quest. I loved the sequences where they train his schoolmates to fight Morgana and the monsters who assist her. The special features are excellent. Scenes featuring Stonehenge and Tintagel were great. Very highly recommended and a welcome addition to my film library.
