Marvel’s Doctor Strange – UK Region
DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:
If you have seen most of the Marvel Universe films, and have reached “Infinity War” without seeing “Doctor Strange”, then you’re missing the backstory on one of the most important characters in the movie storyline.
Dr. Stephen Strange is a brilliant and gifted — and of course, obnoxiously arrogant — world-famous neurosurgeon. One night, he has a serious accident in his car, one that should have killed him (don’t use your onboard computer system and drive, kids!). His life is saved, but his hands were crushed. Doctors put his hands back together, but he is plagued by nerve damage and a tremor in his hands, and physical therapy isn’t doing enough for him, so he begins to seek alternative forms of therapy, expending his life’s fortune as he tries to claw his way back to his profession.
His search leads him to the mystical temple of Kamar-Taj. Not surprisingly, Strange is frustrated by the pace of learning that is presented to him, and he chafes impatiently at his teachers’ guidance, too focused on returning to his life in New York City to see the opportunity that is being offered.
Strange eventually plays a key role in the “Infinity War” storyline, so it is worth watching this film just to understand his role in that, as well as his appearance in the “Thor” movies. But it also stands alone as an entertaining entry in the MU.

First the basics. The version I purchased (new, via Amazon Prime) arrived promptly and in perfect unopened condition. Both the DVD and Blu-Ray discs work perfectly. (Haven’t used the HD Digital yet). Now,…for those of you who might be getting tired of all of the testosterone-on-steroids overkill that Marvel Studios has been cranking out,…this movie is NOT one of those, fortunately. This actually has a story, great acting, (how could it NOT with Benedict Cumberbatch? Everyone else was great too, though…), poignancy, and even a lot of humor. IMHO,…Tilda Swinton (who plays The Ancient One) is over the top great in this movie – equal in character and stage presence to Cumberbatch. This movie has a similar story to other movies, (Batman Begins, e.g.), and like many other films, draws on archtype characters that have appeared in many other series and movies, (e.g., the Ancient One is the Master from “Kung Fu”, etc.) and it uses visual techniques and CGI that obviously have evolved from other movies, (e.g., Inception). However, this movie was still highly artistically creative and a lot of fun – and doesn’t insult one’s intelligence. Highly recommended.
