Shetland Series 4 -UK Region

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

It’s not a good way to start the day. Detective Inspector Jimmy Perez receives a call from his boss, Rhona Kelly: “If you’ve got plans for the weekend, cancel them.” Talk about cold cases. Thomas Malone was convicted in 1994 of the murder of Lizzie Kilmuir. After more than 20 years in prison, it was discovered that evidence was “overlooked” at the time of the trial. As Perez tells his team, “Secondary DNA from the crime scene always pointed to a second suspect, but it wasn’t tested at the time. The insinuation… is pretty clear – they think that this evidence was withheld deliberately.”

The good part for Malone is that he’s released and makes his way back to Shetland, to the house of his mother, who died while he was in jail. The bad part for Malone is that his original trial is declared a mistrial. He can be charged again if Perez finds the evidence, and the whole island thinks he’s guilty anyway.

The VERY bad part for Malone is that another young woman turns up dead the week after his return. And she is the daughter of the retired police detective who put Malone away 23 years before. Things are going to get ugly.

Ancillary questions: Has Tosh found a Norwegian Prince Charming? Does Duncan belong behind bars? Lastly, if you were released from prison after 23 years, would you shave your scruffy beard?

“Shetland Season 4” originally aired February/March 2018. Its 6 episodes total almost 6 hours of very good mystery viewing, covering one case throughout the 6 episodes. If you buy it on disc, the show is presented in 16:9 animorphic and 5.1 Surround Sound. English SDH subtitles are available on the discs. There are no bonus features.

New trivia learned: Jan Hansen is Norway’s equivalent to John Smith in English!

I highly recommend season 4, but I have to say, it has one of the most depressing endings ever. And that’s saying a lot, because over the years, “Shetland” has grown to excel in its brooding atmosphere.

-Happy Reader

A convicted murderer, claiming innocence for over two decades, is released with new evidence turns up. Then a new strangulation looks bad for the ex-con Thomas, played by Stephan Walters who deserves an award. DI Perez (Douglas Henshall) heads up the regular Shetland Islands investigations with his assistance coming from DS Tosh (Alison O’Donnell). Julie Graham (‘Bletchley Circle’) returns too. They weave for clues from throughout the community, friends and foes, a twisted path indeed that keeps viewers glued with intrigue.
` Oh, the scenery is to die for. My TV screen photos are just the beginning. Six episodes create one story with many characters with many issues, in one of the most beautiful settings ever filmed. Expect a strong desire to travel to Scotland. It’s bonny. Worth twice the price I paid.
There were three previous seasons and I recommend all three, wholeheartedly.
