The Blacklist: Season 5 -UK Region

DVD Wholesale Quick Overview:

I am crazy about this show, even though I’ve always been a hard-liner about right vs wrong. Raymond Reddington definitely appeals to the rebel in all of us. But also, I think a lot of us can relate to Lizzie’s situation. Her father is a lot of things she wishes he wasn’t, yet what woman doesn’t dream of having a man in her life who would walk through fire for her? The quandary is, how does she have a relationship with that father and rescue him when he gets himself into trouble without becoming like him? Especially since she’s inherited more of his tendencies than she’d like to admit.
This show just keeps getting better. The plot grows ever deeper, and I love the way the characters develop.

Season 5 is non-stop action again. Kate is gone and Red is broke and in need of rebuilding his empire. We find him living in a motor-lodge and by all accounts he can make the best of any situation. We find him renting a house for 3 days that is robbed, but he thinks his enemies have found him and tried to kill him. He sets out on a quest to find out who is trying to kill him and stumbles onto the plan and convinces the thieves to look at a bigger picture and starts to rebuild
his empire. Later in the season we find that he is well into the mid 9 (figures i.e 1/2 Billion+) and has more or less recovered. He even has another Gulf Stream.

Kate had done a lot of damage to him and it seems that a bag of bones and a DNA test are about to do even more damage. This season the FBI Task Force gets more people from the blacklist and we learn more about another daughter of Red’s as well as the crooked Marshal Ian Garvey who becomes the main nemesis of the season.

We see how the FBI learned the art of subterfuge to gain access to Ian Garvey and how Liz also learned so much about the art of deception in an effort to learn a truth that Raymond does not want her to know. The fake Raymond never made any “bones” about who he was and everyone just assumed that he was Raymond Reddington. Clearly if we think back to Season 1 and the meeting with Fitch we can recall how even Fitch thinks that Raymond has changed so much. In an earlier episode, Naomi knew the truth but said nothing and in this season we find that Raymond wants to see Naomi but we find that Naomi is “dead”, or is she? We now have Jennifer to contend with as well as Liz and the task force. There are still more secrets to peel away and why the fake Raymond thought he had to assume the real Raymond’s identify. I hope it was for a good reason (i.e. out of loyalty he did so to protect Liz), but we won’t know until Season 6 or later if there are more seasons. Clearly the show can go on for a while, but only fans, the producers and the network as well as the actors can determine that. I am now looking forward to Season 6.

On a side note, the 100th episode was a fun one to watch. Just when you think someone pulled something over Reddington we find that they did not.
