Firstly! It’s ludicrous that people are giving this a low score simply because it isn’t s blu-ray. That’s not how reviews work. Secondly, this is Steven Universe Season One! All 52 episodes of one of the best cartoons on television are here, along with a few special features, like song demos and animators for certain episodes. This first season basically serves to introduce the viewer to Steven, his home, his friends, his family, and the lore. The lore, by the way, runs surprisingly deep for a kid’s cartoon show. Essentially, Steven Universe is an action/comedy series about Steven discovering his heritage and potential destiny as the protector of the planet. It’s also the most LGBTQ friendly cartoon I’ve ever seen. Recommended for people of all ages, safe for children 7 and older!-ElliotbonesRNR
Great show and it’s a shame it took this long for actual season releases. I would very much prefer to have a Blu ray copy I will gladly accept this and hope for a Blu ray at a later date. 52 episodes heck yeah. Here’s hoping season 2 comes much sooner.- Bmtsoulreaper
I absolutely adore this series and I give the season itself a perfect 5/5. This review is based only on the quality of this release and the special features.
The 52 episodes are presented in full, including their closing credits. (Note: “The Return” and “Jailbreak” aired on CN as one half-hour special and had a 30-second extended version of the closing theme. This is not the case on this DVD. The episodes are split up and so are their credits. It’s a minor disappointment to not have the 30-second end theme, but on the other hand I prefer the episodes split, for consistency’s sake.The featurettes focus mostly on the music, which makes sense since so much of the charm of this show comes from the songs. Many “live” versions of the songs are included, so we get cool demo and alternate versions for our listening pleasure. However, there are minor spoilers as a result, because some of the songs come from later seasons. Most buyers are probably up-to-date on this series, but just in case you are checking Steven Universe out for the first time, use caution when exploring the special features.There are non-music-focused features as well. I loved the inclusion of full storyboards/animatics for select episodes.My only serious con is the fact that this is only available on DVD. I would buy a Blu-ray set in a heartbeat.-James Whaley
